The major advantage of contingent workers--which includes temporary employees, part-time employees and independent contract workers--is that employee costs are reduced. One strategic issue relevant to using contingent and flex workers (workers with flexible location and/or working hours) is that management must insure that company needs are covered for all the times that they are most important, particularly during regular (non-flex) work hours when demand is highest.
