What are some  literary devices and theme in this poem and "HAWK IN THE SNOW" by Lyle Weis?

HAWK IN THE SNOW by Lyle Weis

I came down from the hills

a dark figure growing larger

whipping snow wands with my skis

Came to rest on the trail

where he stood

head smeared with blood:

a hawk perched on the shredded chest

of a pheasant only moments dead

Hard beak

            Clicking on bone

                                                tearing tendons

                                    ripping guts

scream rose above

red-flecked snow

His deep globe of eye

flicked up

fixed me

neck-snapping collision in midair

No use to twist away

            Everything around me

Snow sky hills shadows and light –

                        every    thing

was pulled rushing and roaring

air whistling

into the vortex

of his eye

I stood hovering

            Fixed

he moved slightly

gripping tightly

the mess under his claws:

it was his and I …

I turned on thin slivers of wood

            slipped down the trail

                        a slim figure retreating

shrinking away

from that eye
