When the witches first give him true prophecies and then use ambiguous meanings for the next set of prophecies, so they betray him with the 2nd prophecies (no man of woman born shall harm Macbeth, Macbeth shall not be defeated till Birnam Wood come to Dunsanine, Banquo's line of sons will reign). Macduff was born by cecaerian section so that meant that he didnt have a natural birth which is what the witches meant by "no man of woman born" but macbeth thought they meant no man that was formed in a woman's womb
Macbeth shall not be defeated till birnam wood come to dunsanine - the troops from england (or wherever) used the tree branches to hide themself from far off, but Macbeth thought the witches meant LITERALLY trees moving with stump and all.
so technically the witches didnt lie.
but they didnt tell the truth either
they act as equivocators in the 2nd one.
it is suspected that fleance came to the witches for revenge which is how he became king because Duncan's oldest son took the throne back after Macbeth died.
hope this helps.
im up right now doing an essay on why people should feel sympathetic towards macbeth. (its 2:01 and i have 2 more paragraphs and i have 1672 words so far)
