The solution of x/y + y/x = 8 can be obtained by equating z = x/y

This makes x/y + y/x = 8

=> z + 1/z = 8

=> z^2 – 8z + 1 = 0

z1 = 8/2 + sqrt (8^2 – 4) / 2

=> 4 + sqrt 60 / 2

=> 4 + sqrt 15

z2 = 4 – sqrt 15

It is not possible to find the individual values of x and y. We can only find the value of x/y.
