Im in Year 12 and im struggling to work out an idea for my short film. The short film can be about anything and it needs to go for about 5-10minutes. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Your short film should be about something you know on a personal level. If you are working with film for the first time or are relatively new to the art you won't want to waste time researching a topic or struggling to come up with the right setting, etc.
I would also recommend making the subject somewhat unusual and memorable. For example, filming your dog performing a new trick may be cute but it is not entirely memorable. You might want to try doing an interview with an elderly or street person.
I would agree that it needs to be something you both have an interest and knowledge about. I would also look at what are the "hot" topics in your area or school district.
Me and my friends make many short films and one way that we get our ideas is by watching very old movies. We have made probably 15 or so 20 minute films by watching Citizen Kane hundreds of times together.
