We are asked to find the slope of the tangent line to the graph of y=cos(2x)+1 at `x=pi/6` .

If you have calculus, then take the first derivative and evaluate at that point:

`y'(x)=-2sin(2x)`

`y'(pi/6)=-2sin(2(pi/6))=-2sin(pi/3)=-2(sqrt(3)/2)=-sqrt(3)~~-1.732`

Without calculus you can take successive approximations by finding the slpe of teh secants at points near `x=pi/6`
