This can be solved by the remainder theorem. It says if a function f(x) is divided by (x-a), the remainder is f(a).
For our question;
`f(x) = x^2+kx+8`
`x-a = x+1 = x-(-1)` Hence `a = -1` .
So the remainder is `f(-1) = 4` .
`f(-1) = (-1)^2-k+8 = 4`
`1-k+8 = 4`
`k = 5`
So the answer of k = 5. Correct answer is in option c).
