Every culture thinks that it's better than every other culture. It's just natural for our pride to be wrapped up in our background. The problem comes from when we assume that we are smarter than everyone else. That's when we make mistakes. We shouldn't underestimate people just because they aren't like us.

Pride in one's heritage is a positive characteristic. With the contemporary backlash by predominantly white Americans of European descent against illegal immigrants, "excessive ethnocentrism" is a flashpoint. For example, in Arizona, legislation has been passed prohibiting public school instruction that emphasizes ethnic heritage.

This behavior historically recurs whenever there is a new wave of immigrants in the United States. In the early 20th century, there was a backlash against Irish and Italian immigrants, for example.

The short answer to your question is, in my opinion, very few, if any.

I think that you are right about that. There has always been ethnocentrism throughout the world in all cultures and will continue to be forever and ever, or as long as the world exists. Doesn't seem to have been any major catastrophe yet.
