This is a great question. We need to realize that popular literature is one of the most powerful shapers of culture. In other words, popular literature shapes popular opinions, fears, hopes, and the like. So, in light of this popular literature has a profound effect in all elections and politics in general. Let me give you an example from a similar medium. One of the most famous television shows in the past few years has been 24. This show talked about terrorism and the dangers of it. Most of the elements of the show was completely implausible, but it gripped the minds of many people. It is now a part of our cultural vocabulary. We can say the same with popular literature. In short, if you influence people, you change the culture, politics, elections and many more things. Popular literature is one of the most effective ways to do this.
