What is the overall theme of this book?

If you want a single theme that encompasses all the other themes, it would be that love sustains humanity and gives meaning to existence…even though there is suffering and even death. (Other themes include the pain of loss and grief and the cycle of life and death.)
This is a harsh but beautiful book.
