There's a term I haven't heard for awhile. Psychocybernatics was the title and the methodology given to a self-help technique by Dr. Maxwell Maltz in 1960. The book was one of the first to advocate a relationship between the mind and the body. Maltz was a plastic surgeon who was often frustrated by patients whose expectations and self-esteem were not really helped by plastic surgery. So he developed a method for people to begin visualizing positive outcomes in the lives. He asks patients to set goals for themselves and thought them positive affirmations in order to help the achieve what they visualized for themselves. Today, many psychological methods for training athletes incorporate Maltz' techniques Other self-help experts like Zig Ziglar, Tony Robbins and Brian Tracy also base some of their techniques on psychocybernatics.
