According to history, Marie Antoinette supposedly make the remark when she was informed that the peasants had no bread to "let them eat cake". When French bakers ran out of bread, they would sell brioche meaning cake for the same price as bread. Marie was not aware there was no flour for baking at all. However, it is believed that she never made the statement. She also put Paris on the map as a fashion capital and introduced the Croissant to France.
