A light-year is a measure of distance, not time. It is the distance that light travels in a year; approximately 186,000 miles x 60 (seconds) x 60 (minutes) x 24 (hours) x 365 (days). It is used to measure astronomical distances, as between stars, galaxies, etc.
it is the distance that light travels in a year; remember it's a measure of distance.
