Darry is a young man who doesn't fit his environment.  He is smart, studious, clean-cut, responsible, and ambitious.  Unfortunately, due to the unfortunate circumstances of his parents' fatal car accident, Darry is stuck on the East side of town working a blue collar job to support his younger brothers.

Darry's life is full of stresses.  He loves and cares deeply about his brothers; his greatest fear is losing another one of his loved ones.  Because of this he is especially strict with his youngest brother, Ponyboy. Darry is constantly frustrated with Ponyboy due to Pony's lack of common sense, which often puts him in dangerous predicaments.  Darry scolds Ponyboy for these lapses of judgement out of love, but Ponyboy views these actions as hateful outbursts.  This causes tension in their house and an added burden to Darry who is already tired and overworked.

Darry's life is one ruined by circumstances.  He has the potential for greatness, but chooses to sacrifice his own dreams for his brothers' well-being.  He often comes off as boring and mean, but the reality is he has a tremendous amount of love and dedication for his family.  What kind of person is Darry?  He is a model family man.

He is a responsible young man who works to make it easier for his brothers and he really cares about Ponyboy and his education. He does like to show off his muscle but his life is full of stress and responsibilities.

Darry works hard to get both his brother enough food and cares a lot about Ponyboy’s education. He likes to show off his muscle.
