During this time, air conditioning was not commonly installed in buildings. The fact that it was literally hot affected the mood and tempers of the players. When the rain started, cooling down the room, tempers also cooled down and the men were better able to reach logical conclusions.
Time period also affected the fact that women were not considered for jury duty - only men - women would not have been able to express themselves openly as men were.
