It is best to start with a definition of special needs. People with special needs require assistance for disabilities that range in scope from physical, mental, or even psychological. Based on this definition, it is clear that the definition of special needs is very wide.

In light of this, the important point to keep in mind is that special needs people require additional attention, because they face challenges. When we add the challenges of family life cycle changes, things become harder for people with special needs. Think about it - life changes can be hard for healthy people. Therefore, this fact alone necessitates additional attention and sensitivity when it comes to people with special needs.

When families realize this and discuss this, it makes things easier for all.
