One common household chemical is chlorinating solution, also called household bleach. The household bleach, which is a solution of chlorine in alkaline water, is mainly used for disinfection of facilities, because it kills bacteria, but it is also known for its color removal property that makes it capable to whiten the fabrics.
The household bleach can also change the color of aluminium foil but this reaction does not occur right away the bleach is poured on aluminium foil. The prolonged contact between household bleach and aluminium can change the color of aluminium, giving it a darker shade. However, a very diluted solution of household bleach and a very short time of exposure of aluminium foil to this solution can avoid the damages of surface of aluminium foil.
