In Bud, Not Buddy, what does Bud do as soon as he gets inside the car?
1 Answer | Add Yours
Bud decides to leave Flint and heads to Grand Rapids, on foot. Despite walking a long time, he is not making much progress. While on route, a man stops his car at 2:30 in the morning because he sees Bud. Bud tries to hide from the driver, but to no avail. The man and Bud begin a conversation, in part, because Bud is tired and hungry. Although Bud agrees to accept a ride, he is still nervous about it. Once Bud looks inside the car, he sees a box that states, "URGENT: CONTAINS HUMAN BLOOD!!!" (106). Bud's imagination gets away from him and he thinks the man is a vampire. Once he has a chance, he jumps in the car and "Quick as anything I locked the door and crawled over to the driver's side of the car and pulled that door closed and locked it just as the vampire reached for the handle to get in" (106). He then puts his knife under his long and takes off with the car, trying to get away from the "vampire." He does not get very far because he doesn't know how to drive.
