What did the Anti -efamation League do to oppose the attacks on civil liberties in the period before WW II?
1 Answer | Add Yours
Beginning in 1946, under the directorship of Meir Steinbrink and Benjamin Epstein, the Anti-defamation League (ADL) changed its agenda from defending civil liberties against anti-Semitism to defending the civil liberties of all people against all attacks against liberty. As a result of this change in agenda, one of the first notable actions to oppose attacks on civil liberties was to withdraw in 1949 form the All-American Conference to Combat Communism because the organization posed a threat to universal civil liberties.
