What characteristics or traits do leaders of dictatorship have in common? Why?

This is a good question. I am sure that there will be some difference of opinion here. This is partially because all people (including dictators) are different. However, from a general point of view, I think we would be on safe footing to say that dictators have some qualities in common.
First, most dictators have a need for control. I would say that this characteristic is one of the most dominant. If you look at personalities like those in North Korea like Kim Il Sung and his sons, they are all very controlling. This is also true of Hitler and others.
Second, I would also say that they have little sense of morality. This point comes out in how they treat people not only to get to the top, but also what they do to stay in power. The adage, absolute power corrupts absolutely is right on too often.
