Botulism is caused by bacterium clostridium botulinum. It is a serious disease. Clostridium botulism is an anaerobic gram positive bacteria.It forms endospores. There are three types of botulism. (1) infant botulism, (2) wound botulism, (3) food botulism. The spores of clostridium botulinum affect a wound and produce toxins. Food borne botulism is caused by toxins contaminated food. Botulism affects the nervous system. Symptoms include weakness of shoulders, thigs, respiratory problem, upper arm and lower arm, blurred vision, vomiting and dry mouth. It may cause paralysis if untreated. In serious condition it causes respiratory failure.
