Using synthetic division:

(a) -2 | 1   -7   -12
                -2     18
           ------------
            1   -9    6

(b) 1  | 1  1  -3  1
               1   2 -1
           -----------
            1  2  -1  0

So `x^3+x^2-3x+1=(x-1)(x^2+2x-1)`

(c)  -1  |  3   5   -3   -5
                  -3   -2    5
              --------------
              3   2   -5   0

So `3x^3+5x^2-3x-5=(x+1)(3x^2+2x-5)`

(d)  2  |  1   -3   0   3   2
                   2  -2  -4 -2
            -----------------
             1   -1   -2   -1   0

So `x^4-3x^3+3x+2=(x-2)(x^3-x^2-2x-1)`
