This is a good question. Let me start off with what a blue law is. A blue law is a law that prohibits stores that are not essential from being open on Sundays. So, stores like shopping centers would be closed on Sundays. Most places have done away with this law and only a few places in America still actually keep it. An example would be in Bergen country New Jersey. The purpose behind the blue lawis for religious observation.
The advantage of a blue law is that it allows people to have a day of rest. And if people are religious, then they have a set time for their families to devote to the worship of God. But even from a secular level, people may say that a law that prohibits shopping might be good in view of all this consumption.
There are also a number of disadvantages. Let me offer two of them. First, some people would say that this law is inconvenient. What if they wanted to shop? Second, others would say that this law limits potential business.
