The political developments which led to the rise of the Gupta Empire were largely based upon their migration to lands that were better suited for warmer living conditions as well as a greater opportunity to have contact with other peoples. The Gupta Empire was responsible for building roads which increased their internal and external trading capacities. The expanded trade in silk and spices to the Persian, chinese, and Roman people increased the economic wealth of the empire. In addition, their advances in mathematics, and medicine greatly influenced their culture as well as those who came in contact with it. The Gupta Empire's decline was different from other imperial declines.
