What method of investigation do I use to answer this question: Was Adolf Hitler special in some way or did the circumstances of Germany during his time inevitably lead to someone playing the role he did?
I'm planning on doing this question for my ib historical investigation. I need help with my 'method of investigation'. So what method am I going to use in this investigation and discussing the question in detail? Help, please.

This is such an interesting question!
Your method of investigation into whether Hitler was somehow "special" should probably involve research into his life and contemporary accounts of him from those who surrounded him and who observed him. There are many such accounts available, and you can construct a picture of him that allows you to decide what his qualities were. In fact, there are probably newsreels available that will allow you to see him for yourself.
The story of pre-war Germany is an interesting one, easy to find ample information on, but I would strongly advise you to go back even further in your research to look at how WWI affected Germany, since the roots of what happened in WWII go back at least that far. Germany was humiliated in the aftermath of WWI, and this led to a great deal of resentment, which really set the stage for WWII.
In history, there is usually no one reason for things to go the way they do, and as you do your research, you will want to bear that in mind. There is likely no "right" or "wrong" answer to the question you are expected to answer, but once you do your research, you will be able to make a case one way or the other. The important thing is to support your position with evidence.
Your sources should always be reputable historians and contemporary accounts of the times. Enotes has a number of study guides available on Hitler, and I have given you one link to get you started.
