The core of Robinson's idea about current state of education is that public education is operating on the basis of outmoded (old fashioned, no longer true) assumptions about futre economic success and the operation of intelligence. He protests reducung students' sensory perseption capacities, mentionsing specifically the ADHD drug therapy "epidemic" that he identifies as a "medical fashion" rather than as a epidemic. He also asserts that the model is based upon an Industrial Revolution standardization model that departmentalizes, runs age-related "batches" of students by birth date ("manufacture date"), and by isolated subject area.
