Two tuning forks have identcal frequencies (350Hz) one of which has small weights attached to the tines.

a) What will you hear if they are sounded together.

b) The weights are lowered on one tuning fork and you hear 12 beats in 6.0s when the tuning forks are sounded together. What is the new frequency of the weighted tuning fork. Explain

c) What will happen to the beat frequency if you lower the weights a little more. Explain your reasoning.

Two tuning forks have identcal frequencies (350Hz) one of which has small weights attached to the tines.

a. We hear beats some time high sound and some time low.

b.The weights are lowered on one tuning fork and you hear 12 beats in 6.0s when the tuning forks are sounded together.

we hear in 6 seconds 12 beats

  In 1 second       12/6= 2 beats

let weighted tuning for has frequency  x Hz.

|x-2| = 350

either

x=352 or

x=348

But weight reduced frequency therefore   x=348 Hz.

c. If further reduced weight, frequency will increase.
