What key events have occurred before the start of the play? Why do you suppose these events are not presented in the play itself?

The main event that happens before the play's action begins is the murder.  The reason the murder is not included in the play is that the play centers on the effects of the murder.  We also do not know for sure who the killer is.

What are the “trifles” to which the title refers? How do these “ trifles” advance the play’s plot?
 Trifles is a one- act play, and all its action occurs in the Wrights’ kitchen. What do you see as the advantages and
disadvantages of this confined setting?
 All background information about Mrs. Wright is provided by Mrs. Hale. Do you consider her to be a reliable source of
information? Why or why not?
