In the story 'Everyman' Death explains to the character Everyman that his life was not given to him, only loaned.

Please explain the difference between a life that is given and a life that is loaned. Much thanks to anyone who can help :]

If a life is loaned eventually you would have to give it back, since its borrowed or "loaned ." If it was given you wouldn't have to give it back it's yours to keep.
