Many fad diets can harm the health of students, and so it is difficult to single out one specific one as least beneficial. One harmful group of fad diets are those which argue for elimination of all carbohydrates and instead require people to subsist exclusively on protein. As many of these diets are very high in saturated fats, they can contribute to coronary heart disease. Their lack of fiber can lead to many digestive problems. They also put excessive strain on the kidneys and lack many important nutrients. Although staying on these diets for a very short period (1 week or less) to lose a few pounds might not be harmful, they are a very bad choice for long-term health.
