Is it sometimes necessary to destroy something in order to save it?

In WWII, the Allies fought against the Axis powers to destroy them. In order to save the world, the Allies destroyed Berlin, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. Is it sometimes necessary to destroy something in order to save it? What are 3 specific modern examples of the destruction of something things to save other things.

i think it is necessary

1. The Invasion of Iraq to stop the possibility of WMDs falling into the wrong hands. ( Hussein/al Qaeda)

2. Killing Osama Bin Laden in order to stop terrorism.

3. shooting down flight 93 to protect the white house from being desroyed.

i hope this helped.
