We have to solve : | x - 4| = | 2x- 7|

Now the absolute value |x| of x as well as -x is equal to x.

| x - 4| = | 2x- 7|

gives us x - 4 = 2x - 7 and -( x - 4) = 2x - 7

x - 4 = 2x - 7

=> x - 2x = -7 + 4

=> -x = -3

=> x = 3

-( x - 4) = 2x - 7

=> 4 - x = 2x - 7

=> -x - 2x = -7 - 4

=> -3x = -11

=> x = 11/3

Therefore x = 3 and 11/3
