Should drunk driving prosecutions be increased? why?

I would say that drunk driving prosecutions should be increased. There are two reasons for this.
First, drunk driving is an extremely dangerous crime. To get behind the wheel of a massive vehicle while drunk endangers both the person doing it and anyone else on the road at the time. Therefore, it is not just some kind of petty offense.
Second, people do not take drunk driving seriously enough. They tend to think that they are capable of driving when they are drunk. People often think that drunk driving is only a crime because the government is excessively intrusive. This needs to change.
Drunk driving needs to be prosecuted more intensively so people will stop thinking that it is just some minor crime that is not serious and dangerous to others.
