Publication, “to make public,” is the communication among scientific researchers scattered around the globe, to present the results and methodologies of individual research. Because scientific journals and similar publications are vetted, monitored and edited by knowledgeable persons in the same field, the publication of research is given a stamp of approval, and is considered a valuable contribution to the discipline. A science professional, besides simply applying scientific knowledge and methods to a particular task, is expected also to contribute original scholarship to his field’s body of knowledge. The publications, besides adding to one’s credentials, advance the field in general, and give others an opportunity to continue the scientific inquiry dealt with in the publication.
