the author has depicted the lagoon from sunset till sunrise.the lagoon by being surrounded by the sand bank or coral reef remains isolated from the sea represents Arsat's isolated life from all his frinends and relatives.the gloomy nature with all its sombreness and ghostly setting adds to the heart rending tragic story of Arsat, the most pathetic undertone.the detail description of nature in that short story help the readers to understand the moral dillema of Arsat.
