(1) One-tailed test: Suppose we want to test whether teachers are paid less than people with the same qualifications working in private companies.
The null hypothesis would be that the mean wage for both groups is the same or `H_0 : bar(x)=mu`
The alternative hypothesis would be that teachers are paid less or `H_1 : bar(x)<mu`
(2) Two-tailed test: Suppose we want to test the amount of soda in a 2l bottle. The null hypothesis is that the mean volume is 2l or `H_0 : bar(x)=mu=2` .
The alternative hypothesis is that the mean volume is different from 2l or `H_1 : bar(x) != 2`
