Congruent polygons have congruent sides and congruent angles. In other word each angle of one polygon has a corresponding angle in the other one with the same measure. The same argument hold for sides.
To determine congruence between triangles you don't have to prove that every angle has a corresponding angle equal to it, and every side has a corresponding side. Mathematicians proved that it is enough to show all three sides of one triangle are congruent to three sides of the other triangle, this is abbreviated by SSS. The other one states that if two sides and the included angle of one triangle are congruent to two sides and the included angle of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent, this is abbreviated by SAS. The third one states that if two angles and the included side of one triangle are congruent to two angles and the included side of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent, this is abbreviated by ASA.
