Poor little Phoenix is very old, possibly 80-100 years of age. When she finally arrives at the clinic, she is so exhausted that she is disorientated. Perhaps, she has kept herself from dwelling on her mission as it is such an arduous task. Instead, she may have just placed one foot before the other in an unthinkingly, instinctive manner. And, now that she has arrived, she must try to resume her contemplation of her mission. Certainly, she may have some dementia at the age that she is, as well.
