The man in the passenger train is travelling at 72 km/h. He observes a goods train travelling in the opposite direction at 54 km/h. The relative speed of the goods train to the passenger is 72 + 54 = 126 km/h.

The goods train passes the passenger in 8 seconds.

The distance travelled by the goods train in 8 seconds is (126000/3600)*8 = 280 m

The required length of the goods train is 280 m.
