Overall, do you think America’s involvement with the rest of the world did more to help or hinder domestic progress over this period? 1) With its entrance into World War II and the subsequent rise of the Cold War with the Soviet Union, the Unites States committed itself to a permanent engagement in world affairs. This new internationalism not only affected American foreign policy, but also had profound effects on the home front. Examine three of the most important effects that foreign affairs had on domestic life in the United States over the period from the 1930s through the mid-1960s, and indicate for each one whether it ultimately benefitted or harmed American society more. Overall, do you think America’s involvement with the rest of the world did more to help or hinder domestic progress over this period? Note: It may be wise for you to explain what you mean by “progress,” since, of course, different Americans had different ideas of just what constituted “progress”.
