The best way to go about answering this essay topic is to think of the basic 5-paragraph format with an introduction, including a thesis, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion re-stating the thesis.  With this short story and its themes in mind, your teacher has asked you to concentrate on beauty, self-doubt and self-acceptance, so a good approach would be to devote one paragraph to each of those themes.  This short story/ essay outlines events that served as a turning point in Walker’s life, including the incident with the BB gun.  If you simply center her self-discovery in the three main areas through this experience, you will have a nice essay.
