If x is the number of hours then the charge for the first company is

`C=20+2x`

The charge for the second company is:

`C=14.75+3.75x`

To find when the charges are the same we can set the expressions for the charge equal to each other and solve for x:

`20+2x=14.75+3.75x`

`1.75x=5.25`

`x=5.25/1.75=3`

So the charges are the same after 3 hours.

We could also graph the equations and find the intercept:
