O'Connor's A good man is hard to find / Sufjan Stevens

I would like to make a comparison for a research paper among O'Connor's A good man is hard to find short story and the song of Sufjan Stevens with the same name that says as follows:

Once in the backyard
She was once like me
She was once like me
Twice when I killed them
They were once at peace
They were once like me

Hold to your gun, man
And put off all your peace
Put off all the beast
Paid a full of these, I wait for it
But someone's once like me
She was once like me

I once was better
I put off all my grief
I put off all my grief
So I go to hell, I wait for it
But someone's left me creased
Someone's left me creased

What would you think would be the best approach to express this subjectivity according to the viewer of the events: the grandmother or the Misfit

a semiotic? a structuralist narratology approach?

I am not sure

Thank you so much

The Misfit seems to match the song lyrics as a bitter person and as a killer, so I would use the Misfit as the focus in this assignment.

The lines "put off all your peace/put off all the beast" seem especially fitting for the Misfit character and expressive of his interest in New Testament ideas. The Misfit thinks that Jesus is a negative force in people's lives and so connects him with his own violent tendencies, his own crimes, and with an absence of peace in himself.
