Suppose you have one brother and one sister. Your father wants to divide his property among you. So you can say your father wishes to divide his property into three parts.

The property is considered as one unit and one third to you, one third to your brother, and one third to your sister. You know (1/3) is a fraction.

Now check

(1/3)+(1/3)+(1/3)=(1+1+1)/3=3/3=1

This is one of the real applications of fractions.
