I need help making a comparison between these two poems....
Adrienne Rich's poem "History" and Derek Walcott's poem "Midsummer" invite a comparison of two expressions of what we have discussed as making routine, casual, and everyday practices that involve systematic exploitation, brutality, or violence against others. While Rich situates her poem in the aftermath of the Allied victory in WW II and from the perspective of a school girl, the speaker in Walcott's poem perceives his homeland of Trinidad with a sardonic and sad eye on the pervasive influence of its northern imperial neighbor.
