This techno guy is all intellectual genius and no heart. Not once throughout the story does he take into consideration the feelings or even the basic needs of other people.  He ostrasizes himself and his family from the outside world, builds up his little kingdom where he alone can be king, and even creates in his mind a nuclear holocaust going on elsewhere to justify his acts. This overgrown whiz kid is like the writer 'camping out' at the Overlook Hotel in Stephen King's The Shining, as isolation and obsession drive him into dementia.
