Microorganisms containing chlorophyll are called algae. Also, a protist called Euglena contains chlorophyll. Protista is a kingdom containing protozoa and algae. Algae are microorganisms capable of photosynthesis and are the producers in aquatic food chains. Microrganisms reproduce asexually by binary fission. Many microorganisms do not contain chlorophyll. These are called protozoa. They are tiny consumers and must get food energy by consuming organisms smaller than themselves, including bacteria. Protozoa include ameba, paramecia and many others.
