On a map, Sydney and Bathurst are 5 cm apart.

If the distance between the two cities is 200km, what is the scale of the map?

The two cities Sydney and Bathurst are 200 km apart. On the map they are 5 cm from each other.

This gives the scale of the map as 1:(200000/0.05) = 1:4000000

The scale of the map is 1:4000000

1:4000000 convert both to centimetres and divide the larger by the smaller
