Zn(s) + H2SO4(aq) à H2(g) + ZnSO4(aq)

 

  1. How many mL of hydrogen gas at STP were generated from 52.7 g of zinc metal?

Zn+H_2SO_4 rarr H_2+ZnSO_4

 

Mole mass

Zn = 65.38g/mol

 

Amount of Zn reacted = 52.7g = 52.7/65.38 mol = 0.8mol

 

Mole ratio

Zn:H_2 = 1:1

 

So amount of H_2 gas produced = 0.8mol

 

At STP 1 mol of gas holds a volume of 22.4L

 

Volume of 1mol of H_2 gas at STP = 22.4L

 Volume of 0.8mol of H_2 gas at STP = 0.8xx22.4L = 17.92L

 

So 17920ml of hydrogen gas will be produced
