To kill a mockingbird

Miss maudie loves all plants except for nut grass, which, in her words, "can ruin a whole yard". Apply this idea to the maycomb community: who might be considered the societal equivalent of 'nut grass' (those who some think should be eradicated from maycomb's "yard")-come up with TWO examples. How are these people or groups "nut grass" in the minds of the community?

Atticus Finch is not looked upon too kindly for his agreement to defend a person that many felt should not be defended in a court of law. Atticus and the values of fair and equal representation before the law he stands for may qualify as an element of the community that some would see as "nut grass".

My first thoughts are the Negroes and Boo Radley. Everyone was segregated against the Negroes, and everyone was scared of Boo Radley because they thought he was insane and a killer.
